With four custom superyacht’s in-build between 80 and 66-metres, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> has been firmly in the limelight over recent years. With increasing demand from owners for an <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> yacht in the sub-400GT segment, the shipyard approached the team at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Team for Design</a> to develop a new series, the result of which is the new Unica 40, unveiled last month. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306883/image/large-e2639bff1ff3e0fd1462cd0f6219e417.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306883">The semi-displacement, all aluminium yacht features a tri-deck arrangement and impressive 390GT, designed to maximise the potential of the 40-metre platform and to appeal to the next generation of owners. In a recent series of interviews, we sat down with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Enrico Gobbi</a> of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Team for Design</a> and Francesco Carbone, General Manager of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a>, to hear more about the new project.&nbsp;<iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/sdAuHwuJCWo?&amp;wmode=opaque" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> Volumes of StyleOver the past few years, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Team for Design</a> has worked closely with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> on the development of the Gran Tourismo 45 and the ISA Gran Turismo 80 (currently in-build). Sleek and sporty superyachts, both models feature a stylish exterior inspired by the automotive industry, appealing to those discerning owners who are looking for a sporty exterior aesthetic. In 2023, Mr Palumbo approached <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1197" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Team for Design - Enrico Gobbi (Company)">Gobbi</a> and the team, to propose a further collaboration, Enrico explains, “The goal was to create a parallel line to the Gran Turismo line, that featured a large interior volume, but that was consistent in terms of its stylish exterior lines and automotive aesthetics.”Before setting out to create the new line, the team set about a deep dive analysis of the market with the goal to create a yacht that offered more space than was currently available. The challenge was to provide more volume, while still offering a beautiful exterior that didn’t become heavy. The first result of this new collaboration is the Unica 40, a yacht characterised by its large volumes, spacious decks and large expanses of glass, all encased within a stylish and streamlined exterior profile. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306880/image/large-e90ce67b9f5f40f6fce8f2d75b42a104.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306880">Francesco Carbone explains, “Over the past two years we’ve had a lot of requests for an aluminium yacht that featured the eye-catching, sporty <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> style and that could make the ideal second vessel for the new generation of owners. Working with Gobbi was an obvious choice because he understands the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA</a> brand so well, and we think the result is a very exciting proposition for our clients, in fact, we’ve already had a lot of interest in this new project”Utilising some clever design features, the yacht’s volumes are hidden and her lines create a sleek profile with the use of elongated decks that have a tapering overhang. The flydeck, which is one of the longest available in her size range, is a perfect example, with an elegant overhang that maximises the available space and low glass bulwarks for unbroken panoramic views.&nbsp;The second design tool that accentuates the yacht’s sporty profile is the expansive use of glass across all decks. “The creation of panoramic views and bright interior spaces are extremely important for today’s owners. There should be no compromise on the windows and we worked hard to ensure that they are unobstructed throughout the yacht. The master stateroom features very large windows with only a slim stylistic bar across, meaning that the views are enormous.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306884/image/large-32a712bda5a01865feb9395e0f61885a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306884">Abundant ExteriorsOne of the most notable features of the Unica 40 is her beach area. Unlike many models on the market that have squeezed an interior beach club into a 40 metre platform, the Unica 40 instead focuses on available deck space. The tiered aft area with each level offering the guest a unique experience. From the main deck with its lounge area, guests step down to the pool, then to a series of sunpads and then onto the swim platform, which folds down from the transom to expand the area right onto the water.&nbsp;Carbone adds, “The aft area is both open and private, which was an early initiative from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> and really sets the model apart from other yachts in her segment. We wanted to create an intimate environment that is safe and enjoyable for all ages.” With the lounge and pool area on the aft deck, it is the upper deck that has been utilised for guest entertainment, with a spacious lounge area and large table. Configured with free standing furniture, the team has imagined an array of customisable configurations that owners can tailor to their own wishes. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306882/image/large-395234e3a19e2203859f310dbbb5b656.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306882">As mentioned above, her flydeck is a standout feature and the space has been further maximised by an asymmetric design with flowing organic forms that utilise every square metre of the space. To the aft are spacious sunpads, with a bar and Jacuzzi to port and a dining area to the starboard side. Gobbi explains, “The asymmetric design was an obvious choice for the flydeck, creating a flow from aft to fore. We have also made some careful choices with the furniture height; the sun pads are low so that they do not obstruct the views from the bar, while the Jacuzzi has panoramic views.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306885/image/large-d693b7c68a3ddbdae940f39006df5e1e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306885">Elegant Interiors&nbsp;While the yacht’s exterior decks are spacious and diverse, her interior is elegant and homely. When first stepping into the main saloon of the Unica 40, the visual oval detail in the ceiling with its central light source, as well as the floating marble stairwell amidships, that draws the eye through the saloon and acts as a clever lengthening design detail. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306879/image/large-e1eafa85a777d6412814f226b66035a1.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306879">Featuring a minimalist design with organic forms, both in the furniture and in the ceiling feature, the saloon is bright and spacious, with a lounge area to port and a dining area to the fore. Like the exterior decks, stylish loose furniture has been arranged around the space, which can be customised to suit the owners wishes. In the concept interior however, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/201" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ISA Yachts (Company)">ISA Yachts</a> has opted for a muted and oceanic colour scheme with grey, taupe and blue, though there are also many customisable elements, including the wood choice, fabrics and loose furnishings. Carbone adds, “In regards to the yacht’s interior styling, once an owner becomes involved we will be very open for customisations and personalisations to the design.”Passing through the saloon, the extraordinary stairwell is backed by reflective glass doors leading through to the master stateroom. The effect of this reflective surface gives the impression of infinite space when within the saloon and further elongates the space. “We carefully studied the light and the perspectives, experimenting with materials and creating subtly lit panels that help to create a luxurious and comfortable ambience.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306878/image/large-35e2da391f017b4c46cb5e0b105b02ae.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306878">The yacht’s master stateroom is a work of art, and looks as though it belongs on a yacht of 60, rather than 40 metres. Utilising once again the asymmetric layout, the space is opened up and once again sightlines have been prioritised through the stateroom to the ensuite. Upon entrance, the owner has a clear path to his and hers bathrooms, with the bed situated on the port side and a spacious, open area to starboard. Gobbi adds, “Speaking with owners, we found that although many love the look of the centralised bed, they also feel that it takes away a huge amount of space that could be better utilised for a seating area or office. Here we have created a flow through the stateroom and the huge windows on both sides flood the room with light.” Featuring a 60 inch TV hidden with a mirrored surface, the team has once again employed reflective surfaces to cleverly open the space and give this voluminous yacht even more space.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/306881/image/large-099d7190cd34dc9b333c242b304308f6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/306881">The Unica 40 is the perfect addition to ISA’s successful superyacht line and with engineering already underway and a 24-month build schedule from keel laying, we can expect to see this spectacular yacht gracing the global fleet in coming years.

For over four decades, UK-based lighting manufacturer LightGraphix has been pushing the boundaries of innovation in the marine space.

Founded seven years ago, Dutch company <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4983" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="We Supply Yachts (Company)">We Supply Yachts</a> has been shaking up superyacht provisioning ever since. Led by the Van Gorsel brothers, Joost and Maarten, the company has recently expanded into the Interior and Technical Supplies departments, with its 70-strong team ready to meet the ever-changing demands of clients, wherever they are in the world.&nbsp;Here, we catch a breath with the brothers and discover how they manage to get supplies to some of the world’s most remote areas, the biggest challenges of running a business in 2025, and why foodies should be looking to South Korea for their next culinary adventure. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362199/image/large-94f52ec6008f77a3611fe614f812b255.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362199">What gap in the market were you trying to fill when you founded&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4983" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="We Supply Yachts (Company)">WSY</a>, and what makes you unique? Maarten: The provisioning approach we introduced in 2018 already filled a gap. But we saw a bigger opportunity: applying that same approach to Interior and Technical Supplies. With our own transport going directly to yachts, we avoided relying on couriers. That gave us full control and speed. Joost: Traditional suppliers are stuck in old systems. We made ourselves a promise early on: we’d only move forward if we could do it 100 percent right, with the right systems, the right people and the right expertise. Once the galley department was exactly how we envisioned it, we expanded, first to Interior, then to Technical Supplies. Every department is led by specialists who never do things halfway. Anyone can deliver an apple or a pear. What sets us apart is how we think, more like a partner than a supplier. We always start with an intake. Based on that, we create a yacht profile so we know exactly what’s needed on board. It’s like a Michelin restaurant, once you’ve been, they remember what you liked and what you didn’t. We also understand how to deliver goods in difficult countries, dealing with paperwork, local rules and customs. Our work goes far beyond logistics. We advise on ingredients and delivery locations. If a yacht has a two-week guest trip, we’ll send ripe bananas for week one and unripe ones for week two so they ripen just in time.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362201/image/large-516eeb07e0977a83eef787d5fe126ba2.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362201"> Yachts are heading to more remote locations than ever. How do you handle provisioning in those parts of the world? Joost: Yachts are pushing into places like Antarctica, Greenland and Tahiti, and we move with them. Being a global partner means finding solutions where others see limitations. We always start by checking if commercial flights are possible; it's the most cost-effective option. If not, we look into chartered flights and handle local authorities directly. What sets us apart is that we don’t just react, we anticipate. We advise clients on the smartest provisioning locations based on their schedule and timing. Guests don’t want to take a risk and end up with poor quality. After all, when people return from holiday, there are always two questions: ‘How was the weather? ' and ‘What did you eat?’ We can’t control the weather, but we can influence the food. That’s why we sometimes recommend stocking up earlier, in ports where import is easier and quality is higher. Later, at more complex destinations, yachts can top up with fresh produce. Topping up locally with small, frequent purchases helps maintain quality. Sometimes we can’t deliver everything ourselves, and we’re honest about that. We’ll suggest a trusted local partner or share contacts. It’s about helping clients make the best choices and ensuring the journey runs smoothly. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362203/image/large-c29bdae750cfe7c18cb672d6b9c43c6c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362203">What are the greatest challenges of running a business in 2025?&nbsp;Maarten: The pace is high. Clients want things faster, delivered more smoothly and with more personal service, all at once. Lead times are getting shorter, while in the past, there used to be more room to plan. That’s also driven by the new generation, as many people think everything is instantly available. But what most forget is that true craftsmanship takes time.&nbsp;Creating a high-quality product doesn't happen overnight. We try to anticipate that by building stock and making clear agreements with our suppliers, so they know what to expect and can prepare accordingly. But it can still be challenging to deliver the level of quality clients expect within such a short time frame. Joost: We don’t say yes to everything. We’d rather do something properly or not at all. That’s not about being difficult, it’s about keeping our standards and making sure people know they can rely on us. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/362204/image/large-41787424274b596f0f99666ec32124fd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/362204">What's the most exciting product you've been asked to find? Joost: This is my playground! We’ve explored Japan, but South Korea has recently blown us away. The products coming from there — meats, vinegars, dry goods — are incredibly refined. In many ways, they go even further than Japan in terms of quality. The yachting world has long focused on American, Australian and Japanese meats. But in the past year and a half, we’ve seen a shift. There’s a growing demand for grass-fed European options. We dove into what’s possible and found exceptional farms in Italy and Northern Spain. Carima breeds, Rubia Gallega oxen aged 15 to 16 years, offer a fantastic depth of flavour. When chefs serve that to American guests and hear, “Wow, there’s so much flavour in this,” that’s what drives me. We work with suppliers who truly care. Working across diverse regions, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a> encountered a wide variety of technical approaches and construction philosophies. “Humans are still the most important part of the process,” he reflects. “Wherever you go, you meet people with different experiences who offer different technical solutions.”&nbsp;For <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a>, integrating his Italian and Venetian sensibility with the distinct methods of other cultures has consistently led to stronger results. “It’s like genetics - when you combine different things, you become richer,” he says. This open-minded philosophy underpins his long-standing collaboration with Dutch builder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/54" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Heesen Yachts (Company)">Heesen Yachts</a>, with whom he has worked on over a dozen projects winning multiple awards. As he explains, the benefits of mastering both disciplines are significant, allowing a designer to control three essential elements: the way people move through the yacht, the use of space, and the way natural light is introduced into the interior.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/360759/image/large-762fc3ac1af9162ba19310ed5f2ef201.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/360759">“I think that modern design is about giving an experience,” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a> explains. “If you are able to control the design, you can control that experience - making sure it feels connected, without barriers. From the moment you see the object, to when you walk inside and around it, it should all flow as one.”This integration, he notes, helps to avoid the disconnect that can occur when interiors and exteriors are designed separately - a common pitfall when different specialists are involved. “Sometimes the combination with the exterior architect is very collaborative,” he says. “But other times, there’s a different perception of reality and you can feel the disconnection between what you experience inside and what you experience outside.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/349778/image/large-2cb6148cb7142b5ea55ecfb074641287.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/349778">Expanding the role: From designer to owner’s representativeIn addition to his work as a designer, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a> has increasingly taken on the role of owner’s representative - a development that, he says, grew organically out of long-term client relationships, rather than through deliberate planning. “When you gain a little white hair, you become a bit more trustworthy!” he jokes. Clients who had worked with him over the years began asking him to assist not only with design, but also with managing the broader construction process.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/360765/image/large-e24b1cb201cee3f9395fbc7f16800a81.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/360765">Acting as an owner’s representative requires overseeing budgets, timelines, and technical compliance - balancing creative vision with practical execution. “You can design the most beautiful object, but if it’s out of budget or doesn’t meet the technical requirements, it’s worthless,” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a> says. “Clients don’t pay for fancy renders - they pay to feel an emotion onboard.”Every decision, he notes, must carefully balance three critical elements: weight, time and capital. Weight, in this context, refers not only to the physical mass of the yacht and its components - which impacts performance, stability and regulatory compliance - but also to the technical discipline required to ensure a project remains viable. Designed exclusively for clients of his studio, the collection reflects decades of experience working across yacht interiors and exteriors. “I tried to combine everything I’ve learned over the last 30 years into a series of collections,” he explains. “It’s like the cherry on the cake.”Unlike conventional home furniture adapted for marine use, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/205" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cristiano Gatto Design (Company)">Gatto</a>’s designs are purpose-built for the demands of yachting - balancing weight, volume and durability without compromising on aesthetics. Developed over six years, with three years of prototyping, the main furniture collection is produced primarily in Italy and Austria under the new brand Onde. We were able to quickly establish a new facility there, and we are now building our new ULTIMA catamarans at this site. We actively participate in local boat shows across the UAE and have an office in Dubai to stay connected with the market. The region has a strong appetite for new technology and is very forward-thinking, which aligns perfectly with our vision. Silent propulsion systems that produce no fumes and no vibrations, are the next level of relaxation onboard. When it comes to materials, we offer recycled or recyclable options that are not only environmentally responsible but also beautiful and reliable. There is no real sacrifice in terms of luxury; in fact, our clients enjoy more peace and silence, which enhances the onboard experience. We currently have three <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> 43M superyachts in production. This is a trend that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> is setting in the industry. We want to demonstrate that superyachts can be both energy-efficient and have a positive environmental image. We have a separate superyacht team of specialists and facilities that are perfectly adapted to large projects.&nbsp;How do you balance customisation and scalability when developing larger, more complex multihulls, particularly as the demand for bespoke interiors and hybrid systems increases?For the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1158" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunreef Yachts (Company)">Sunreef</a> 43-meter model, we carried out the world’s largest single-shot composite hull infusion, which is a significant technical achievement. The composite structure is fully adapted to integrate solar cells. To ensure efficiency without compromising customisation, the interiors are constructed in a separate, dedicated area. Charting a bold course: How Sunreef Yachts is shaping the future of luxury multihulls

As <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis Falmouth</a> enters a new phase of growth and investment, SuperYacht Times sits down with Charlie Ross, Director of Operations, to discuss current activity at the yard, future plans, and how the company continues to blend craftsmanship with technological innovation. &nbsp;Having joined the business almost 20 years ago as an ex-Lloyd's surveyor, Charlie has worked throughout the company’s spectrum of operations, from refit project management to new-builds. My role centres on Falmouth, ensuring clear ownership and direction. Stephen Hills can now focus on the Group’s commercial activities and Toby Allies on client engagement. We’re planning both in five-year and 15-year horizons – not just business goals, but also how we’re perceived by the community and the industry as a whole.&nbsp;We are also making physical amendments to the yard in Falmouth and have secured planning permission to raise the roof on part of the dry dock, which will allow larger vessels with more air draft to enter. We’re also extending Hall 3 – where <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fox34.86m (114'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd2024">Fox</a> was built – by 40 metres, adding capacity, workshops, and new technology. Currently we can handle a single 75 metre and a 50 metre yacht simultaneously. The dry dock upgrade will allow us to accommodate two 75 metre yachts simultaneously, meeting current, and hopefully future demand for our services. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/325968/image/large-1443b1fbe4f1427100735cb56f5e73de.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/325968">Following the delivery of the 34.86-metre&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fox34.86m (114'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd2024">Fox</a>&nbsp;last year, has there been a shift in perception of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2873" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Vilanova (Company)">Pendennis</a>&nbsp;as a new-build facility as well as refit?&nbsp;Definitely. Over recent years we’ve completed some highly significant rebuilds and reconstructions such as the classic motor yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/534" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Marala58.8m (192'11&quot;)Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard1931">Marala</a> and more recently <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3535" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Jester68.8m (225'9&quot;)OY Laivateollisuus1972">Jester</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Smits Scheepswerven N.V.1957">Seawolf</a>, which have shone the light on our refit capabilities.&nbsp;The completion of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fox34.86m (114'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd2024">Fox</a> last year, however, was an opportunity to demonstrate to the industry that our expertise is excellently translated to the completion of complex new-builds. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fox34.86m (114'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd2024">Fox</a> was an unusual project, coming to us in a partially completed state, we were able to employ a lot of our technological and design abilities to the yacht and put our own print on it. The final yacht has been extremely well received, and we are certainly open to more new-builds, though we do not have plans to transition into a solely new-build yard. &nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis Falmouth</a> is a full-service shipyard, and we employ all of our staff directly which gives us excellent control over timelines and quality. That being said, in the past 18 months we’ve had the aforementioned and highly significant rebuild of the 58.83-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/697" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Seawolf58.83m (193'0&quot;)J. & K. Our long-serving team means many of the people who worked on a yacht years ago are still here for its next visit, and the lessons learned from refits directly inform our new-build practices, which I think makes it a very solid combined offering. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/360146/image/large-1b3d0f93fb14ef19b9957d6841a91d7b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/360146"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis Falmouth</a>&nbsp;has made significant investments in technology, could you elaborate on that with some specifics?&nbsp;In the first instance with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/6289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fox34.86m (114'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd2024">Fox</a>, we used our 3D scanning capability to capture the built structural environment accurately so that we could then allocate the net space to systems engineering and allow the modelling of the interior carpentry and cabinetry to be developed in the envelope. Further to this to improve production efficiency and quality we elected not to use drawings but had the live digital models on iPad for the production teams to use for installation. This was a first step, next time I can see this being further augmented in some way to further improve the outcomes.&nbsp;At <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis</a> we’re always looking to improve our facilities and services, and our most recent technological development has been the opening of a new Digital Manufacturing Centre (DMC) on-site in Falmouth. Perhaps surprisingly, in our increasingly environmentally attuned society, combining diesel engines with electric motors and battery banks was considered a radical idea as little as 15 years ago.&nbsp;Fast forward to 2025, and hybrid technology powering yachts has matured significantly. While battery production does have an environmental footprint, the reduced emissions and fuel consumption during the yacht’s operational life often outweigh it, especially when solar panels or shore power from renewable sources are used.&nbsp;Advances in battery chemistry, such as lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and solid-state developments on the horizon, have increased safety, longevity, and recyclability. Solar will remain essential for supplementary energy, and wind-assisted propulsion could return in modern form. We design systems to maximise battery use while minimising capacity waste. Partnering with battery suppliers who follow responsible mining and recycling practices is critical. Onboard solar reduces dependency on the grid, and we advocate for marinas to source renewable energy and provide clean shore power. Over time, grid decarbonisation and second-life battery programs will further improve the equation.How could AI and smart systems be used to optimise energy consumption, monitor environmental performance, and predict maintenance needs?AI and smart systems are game changers. They can optimise propulsion by learning cruising habits and suggesting efficient modes and predict maintenance by monitoring engine health, battery cycles, and system usage. They could also reduce waste by automatically managing HVAC, lighting, and power systems based on occupancy.
