Nestled in the idyllic and well-protected Boka Bay in the heart of Montenegro, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> combines a unique offering of location, expertise and, most importantly, space, but has been slow to assert itself in the competitive superyacht refit sector. Roché, who has spent 30 years founding and managing superyacht shipyards including <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/278" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sunrise Yachts (Company)">Sunrise Yachts</a> in Antalya, has come to the table with a fresh approach, with the goal to become the prime destination for winter refit, repair and maintenance, in partnership with Porto Montenegro’s impressive offering.&nbsp;SuperYacht Times sat down with Roché to find out more about his plans for the facility, deep dive into his unique approach and share an insight into what we can expect from the yard over the coming years. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/283063/image/large-03951036c263ecc017ba7c67bc5bea66.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/283063">Originally a commercial shipyard, what motivated the transition from commercial to superyacht refit?The shipyard sits opposite the new and highly successful <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1857" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Porto Montenegro (Company)">Marina Porto Montenegro</a>, and at over 100,000 square-metres of premium hard-standing space, it offered an unparalleled opportunity to invest in an almost ready-made refit shipyard. With its pre-existing build sheds and near 900 linear metres of dock space, the investors of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1857" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Porto Montenegro (Company)">Marina Porto Montenegro</a>, PM Holdings LLC and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6122" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="DryDocks World (Company)">Drydocks World Dubai</a>, recognised the potential for a facility that not only completed the marina, but also helped to draw more superyachts to the region. We opened our doors in late 2021, but since then I have worked with the team to refocus the strategy and to create a true ecosystem for superyacht refit. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/283319/image/large-08f1ffc4adec2f7861e555f1cde3474f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/283319">Tell us a bit about how the yard has developed since you took over as CEO earlier this yearThe original strategy of the yard was to service the vessels residing and arriving in the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/1857" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Porto Montenegro (Company)">Porto Montenegro Marina</a>, but I realised straight away that <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> has the potential to become a major player when it comes to large and very large yacht refits. In order to gain the trust and confidence of the industry, however, we needed to tailor the infrastructure and create an ecosystem that supports all forms of refit and maintenance. With so much space available, we have now focused our energies on creating facilities for expert subcontractors, essentially to draw the best businesses in the industry to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a>, where they will be able to set up their own workshops so that we can offer world class services on our site.&nbsp;We have now signed with a growing list of established and reputed subcontractors who are planning to move into workshops and offices at the yard and we are well underway in the construction of those facilities, the first of which will be ready for the upcoming refit season. We have the 180-metre, 10,000-tonne, floating drydock in situ, and we acquired a 720-tonne mobile boat hoist last May and are already looking to purchase a 1,500-tonne MBH in preparation for the 2024 refit reason. Within the next year we will have extended our ground capacity by another 40,000 square-metres, in addition to finishing the refurbishing of our very large deepwater dock to accommodate several 100m+ superyachts.In addition to the expansion of the services facilities, we are also focusing on the development of a strong and exciting crew infrastructure – what will be the Adriatic Yacht &amp; Sports Club – that complements the excellent crew facilities already in place at Porto Montenegro. Our entire programme is based on transparency, innovation and ethical practices and we think that what we can offer to the industry and the clients is unusual. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/282952/image/large-f7fba8a8901f4479897d44aa4c7d48fc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/282952">Looking forward to the refit period ahead, how many yachts are you currently able to accommodate and how do you expect this to develop?&nbsp;It looks like we will currently be servicing between 12-18 yachts this upcoming season in the range of 50-60 metres, but our plan is that by next winter season we’ll be able to take in between 50 and 60 yachts, including those above 100 metres. It is ambitious but we are motivated and supported by our investors to expand exponentially and with the interest we are already receiving from the industry we see that it is doable.&nbsp;This season we have some exciting refits, including a full rebuild and this is our opportunity to demonstrate to the industry what we are capable of. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/277732/image/large-9d2984608ba0df0259ef7e716cbde21b.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/277732"> Why do you think owners will come to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> over the established yards in Spain for example?The refit industry has seen an increase in demand across the board, with the superyacht fleet increasing in age and a higher demand for older yachts in need of refit. We have a huge facility, with capacity to service the industry’s largest yachts and we have availability for the upcoming season – which very few other yards can say. As I said earlier, our goal is to provide the best service to the clients we have this season in the hope that they will share their experience with other yachts, owners and captains in the future.&nbsp;We are also focusing on providing something that is very dear to our shareholders: ethical practices, total transparency, and sustainable business environment. &nbsp;This is why all our rates are available to the public and we have an open-book policy with all our clients. &nbsp;We want to develop mutual trust and respect. &nbsp;Alongside with irreproachable workmanship, we believe that this is what will make our clients return to us and recommend us to others.We are also working hard to connect with the local community and create an environment that attracts owners, crew and captains. I have been working with local businesses and we now have a crew training facility onboard that can provide STCW-95 training next to the yard, so crew no longer have to worry about travelling to gain or maintain their qualifications. We are also in conversation with airlines to open more frequent routes between the main yachting hubs such as Barcelona, Florence and Nice.&nbsp;With support from the local people, a solid investment plan and unparalleled infrastructure, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6770" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adriatic 42 (Company)">Adriatic 42</a> is set to become a premier refit destination. “Admiral Lord Nelson’s old adage that ‘Ships and men rot in port’ is just as true now as it was in his era,” muses Michael White, Director at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4547" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TWW Yachts (Company)">TWW Yachts</a>, when asked about the benefits for an owner considering charter when building their yacht.&nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286824/image/large-4bea38b04840ca950b771c3aec26be6c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286824">“Building with charter in mind is sensible for three key reasons,” White continues. “The first, and most obvious reason, is financial: depending on how much time an owner will give us, he is likely to see a substantial contribution towards operating costs or even in some instances making a capital return on their investment. Keeping a focused and busy crew that keeps the vessel running properly is the second. While the third, and often overlooked reason is tax breaks: certain countries offer tax advantages for commercial vessels operating as a business.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286817/image/large-4d5d7e2099c4d79ec3a0da637f57878c.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286817">&nbsp;Commercially classifying a new build should also be seen as a long-term investment; regardless of whether an owner decides to charter their yacht, building to international standards and classifications will be beneficial when the time comes to sell. Most second time owners will wish to have the yacht working in charter, and as such it’s a sensible investment to build to meet charter requirements. “As a prerequisite for being commercially classified, yachts are built to very high safety standards. Durability and upkeep are also major considerations for the build team – all crucial considerations for a future buyer” says White. “And if that buyer is looking to make an enterprise from their investment – which most are! – then they’re far more likely to consider a yacht that was built to charter requirements. Otherwise, a seller might be left with two choices: sell below market value or invest time and money in refitting to meet these standards.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/273081/image/large-77753f90a22e13a82f4037a13dc92ca6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/273081">The ideal charter yacht? There really isn’t a one-size-fits-all, and the common idea of a ‘perfect charter yacht’ is probably a misnomer. There are, of course, good traits and makeup of a good charter yacht, but the complete DNA is thankfully subjective – otherwise, we’d have the same yacht built time and time again. Everyone has his own ideas and the type and size of the yacht will depend on so many aspects – where the vessel is to be chartered, budget, and individual choice.&nbsp;“If an owner wants to maximise charter revenue, a displacement yacht capable of crossing the Atlantic to operate in both seasons might be a sensible choice,” White explains. “But if you want to exclusively charter in the Bahamas, for instance, you’d likely look for a faster boat with a shallow draft. The style and type of yacht are just as directed by needs; however, market demands should also be considered. It’s important to understand how and why a yacht should be used, as well as insights into current and future trends.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/273123/image/large-7c7177a824af184bae282cd2c4cb8500.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/273123"> Before starting a new build project it’s always sensible to appoint a good project management team. Not only invaluable throughout construction, but also a thorough specification review will highlight any shortfalls that can be put right and budgeted for before the build begins. This expertise will ensure success in both the short and long term. There might be times when the original specifications look great on paper but are flawed in reality – a keen, experienced eye should identify and rectify any problems early which will mitigate hurdles post-delivery. Regular reporting and a presence in the shipyard will ensure that the vessel when delivered will meet and hopefully exceed all expectations. Thereafter it will transfer seamlessly into the operational management side and charter.“We’re a small, boutique company that prides itself on its expertise. As a rule of thumb, around eight to 10 weeks of charter should cover the direct operating costs with anything more than that contributing to capital costs and thereafter profit.”&nbsp;Using the services of a broker to contract a new build at a yard is highly beneficial for a buyer. As a company we will probably build many yachts at the yard, whereas a private buyer might only build one. So, a yard will often offer preferential terms to a buyer using a well-respected broker. Furthermore, a good broker will direct a buyer to the shipyard that has the most experience and offers the best terms and delivery dates. “If we know first-hand that a shipyard consistently delivers to a high standard and on time then we’re much more likely to refer our clients to them,” adds White. “We know they’ll get the job done!” <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/286832/image/large-59aad19fb09119309d269060277eb0c7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/286832"><a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4547" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TWW Yachts (Company)">TWW Yachts</a> builds on trust and has very strong retention rates as a result. “When you get to my age, I am now often working with multiple generations within the same family,” White says, smiling. “A Benetti that we’re building at the moment is for the son of a client who I’ve been working with since 1982. According to von der Thüsen, these distortions result in local shading or changes in colour that are visible at an acute angle or through sunglasses with polarising lenses.Within this scope, the quality of bonding and sealing should be considered. This is a crucial step when considering stability onboard. “After a few years of usage, a bad sealing will lead to optical defects and a potential risk of instability.” <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3829" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="TILSE Yacht Glazing (Company)">TILSE</a> uses their type-approved materials and specially trained employees. By using a PVB foil for the compound glass, the risk of delamination is dramatically higher compared to a compound glass with our specially developed resin. “In the case of delamination, the individual glass panes of the compound detach from the foil. Besides negative optical effects on the surface, the delamination rapidly decreases the surface load capacity and bending strength. With this, the use of glass onboard is rapidly accelerating and thus becoming a significant element of the superstructure and design of superyachts. “The requirements for quality and load capacity are increasing, as well as more curved glass being used on superyachts,” von der Thüsen added.Current difficulties within this market include quality and design trends encouraging “more and more glass suppliers trying to get into the market with meager prices at considerably low quality. As sunlight passes through, the pane radiates energy that elevates the room's temperature.&nbsp;Conversely, heat transmission, or the ug-value, measures the amount of energy conducted through a material irrespective of visible light. Within building construction, the ug-value is a gauge for a room's insulation level.The solar factor, represented as the g-value, gains increased importance given the rising utilization of glass in superyachts. A higher g-value suggests more excellent heat permeability through the glass. One method to reduce the g-value is through the application of tinted glass. The show will be held on the 20th-21st of March in Barcelona’s World Trade Centre and will be three times the size of the previous edition, with a dedicated auditorium for the highly anticipated TECHtalks, a presentation stage at the Discovery Lab and a rooftop exhibition space that's set to exhibit the best and brightest of the industry’s onboard technology – among many other exciting features. We sat down with Founder Jack Robinson to get the inside scoop on the upcoming event and to find out exactly how the team stays on top of the latest technological innovations to ensure they are bringing the best in the business to the table. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/283945/image/large-1f252366601e54479623e6dd732a06e7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/283945">Firstly, for anyone who hasn’t yet attended, why is a show focused on technology and innovation a valuable addition to the superyacht sector?All of the conversations we’ve been having over recent years have shown us that a specialised technology show, where top companies can show off their latest research and development, is in high demand in yachting. Major shipyards have told us quite clearly that they will not be visiting suppliers during the major brokerage shows, because they are there to sell yachts, and we have firmly believed that attempting to sell to clients, while they themselves are selling, is not a proactive strategy.&nbsp;We also made the decision to host the show pre-season, so that ETOs, brokers, owner’s representatives etc. can access the full scope of available technology well ahead of the winter refit season. This enables them to specify the most innovative technologies for their projects in advance – something that is not possible when viewing technology at the Autumn shows right before the refit season begins.&nbsp;With this in mind, we are a private, ticketed show and we have created a number of private meeting rooms which can be booked during the event so that negotiations can be made on site. Our goal is to create an event where the coolest, most innovative technologies can be showcased, with amazing speakers that educate the industry and to encourage collaboration and discussion.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284424/image/large-dec161558c72636040e2b6be16b3fd5b.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284424"> What are some of the key features that visitors to the show can expect from the&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/208" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Technology Show 2024 - 4th edition">2024 edition</a>?As you’ve said, the show is three times the size that it has been before, in a dedicated private event space and we’ve been searching for some amazing ways to showcase the technology on site. Of course we want to keep some things as a surprise, but top features will be the custom-built cinema and the rooftop which is being furnished by some incredible superyacht designers and which will showcase some of the coolest on deck tech; such as heaters which create heat bubbles. We want to show our visitors that the capabilities of technology are limitless and to open their minds to what is possible today, and what will be possible in the future.&nbsp;A major part of our mantra is to bring new technology to the fore and because we are an independent organisation it allows us to be a bit disruptive and different in the way that we do things. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284426/image/large-5f653aa646fddfec6ba3c75306871c1c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284426">How does your team seek out the companies and the tech that exhibits at the show?We speak to dozens of companies on a daily basis to those who are interested in getting involved with the show, or who want to speak with us about how their technology might be of interest within our industry. For example last year one of our TECHtalks was hosted by the developer of Beats headphones who has spent 10 years developing the world’s first truly noise cancelling headphones and that was technology that had never been seen before.&nbsp;Aside from our own network, we also attend the major technology shows in the US such as CES in La Vegas. For many of the major technology companies, yachting is a minor sector within their global revenue and brokerage shows simply do not make sense for them, whereas our show gives them the right platform where they know they will get to exactly the right audience. &nbsp;We were also partially acquired earlier this year by Will Faimatea of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2965" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bond Technology Management (Company)">BOND Technology Management</a>, who has brought with him a massive scope and reputation and who has also supported our startup accelerator. Across the board, yachting industry shows are inaccessible to small businesses and startups, with high exhibitor fees and challenges around travel and accommodation. Our accelerator offers podium stands for €2,350, inside the Sea Lounge area with beautiful views and the perfect location to network and speak with potential clients or investors, as well as full access to all events. This year we will also have four dragons in attendance, who will be attending all events and who all come to the table looking for investment opportunities. Will Faimatea is of course one of this year’s dragons and he has already made investments in two companies that he first saw at the show in previous editions. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/283947/image/large-c15344d706408f1cb31e7889e3a04e3d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/283947">How do you attract and what do you offer to your VIP visitors?VIPs for us are the decision makers, which means that the owners' representatives, ETOs and AV/IT Officers are as important as the owners, because they are the technical experts that the owners rely on. The focus of the wider industry is moving in the direction of creating technological ecosystems that work seamlessly between the houses, yachts and apartments, and the technology that we are exhibiting is at the heart of that transition.&nbsp;We have created an extremely comprehensive package for our VIP guests and it has been one of the major investments of this upcoming edition. The packages have levels within them, the top being a complete package with flights and hotel, but vitaly, everybody attending as a VIP does so on equal terms. Everyone gets breakfast and we have created a system for the lunches so that there are different expert chefs serving different meals in each of the halls at food islands with a big central kitchen. Each visitor is assigned a colour, representing a different lunch location and these change over the course of the show offering unique networking opportunities.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284427/image/large-0747951c16d1befba92d140ada990098.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284427">Can you tell us a little bit about the talks and speakers?We have taken on the San Francisco approach to the show, in the way that we do our TECHtalks, the fact that we don't do panels, and the format of the entire event. We aim to always have a variety of speakers, inviting technology disruptors to take to the stage and our talks are firmly not sales pitches.We have two excellent hosts, Nikusian Kooijmans of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4441" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="One B.V. (Company)">ONE</a> and Margarita Amam of IMS and we have already announced some exciting speakers, such as Arnaud Vasquez, Founder of HySeas Energy, as well as Nick Cranston and Julie Clark Barnard from <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2509" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Savage Marine Ltd (Company)">Savage Marine Lighting</a>. Over the coming months more speakers will be announced, and of course there will be some surprises saved for the event itself!How many people are you expecting to host in 2024?We are happy with up to 1000 visitors but our focus has never been ticket sales, it has always been on the exhibitors because as a Network we want to encourage collaboration and integration between these exciting and innovative businesses. We have now stopped selling VIP tickets and have a limited number of day passes available but everyone who attends the event has to prove that they are professionals in yachting because we are a private show. &nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284425/image/large-b681d4e8959569fbb2f8182de33a7cc1.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284425">Finally, what can we expect from&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/7041" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Technology Network (Company)">Superyacht Technology Network</a>&nbsp;for the rest of 2023?I will be attending the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/172" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cannes Yachting Festival - 2023">Cannes Yachting Festival</a> briefly next week to visit some clients and our team will be in Monaco alongside the team at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2965" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bond Technology Management (Company)">BOND TM</a>. We are hosting a private event during the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/182" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Monaco Yacht Show - 2023">Monaco Yacht Show</a> at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2965" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bond Technology Management (Company)">BOND</a> offices for 20-30 people and we will be walking the show and visiting technology exhibitors in the supplier tents, but as I have already mentioned, brokerage shows operate in quite a different sector.&nbsp;Of course we will be attending the technology shows in the US, where the coolest and most radical research and development is presented. Those events, like CES, give a snapshot into the technology of the future, as much as four or five years in advance of its release to the general public, so they present an important opportunity for us to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to future innovations.&nbsp;The team will also be present at Southampton Boat Show in mid-September, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/183" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show - 2023">Fort Lauderdale Boat Show</a> in late October and the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Event/184" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="METSTRADE - 2023">METStrade</a> in Amsterdam in November, so if you’re attending the event, make sure to reach out to the team to schedule a meeting;

The Superyacht Technology Show returns bigger and better than ever

Designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/283" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Luiz de Basto Designs (Company)">Luiz de Basto</a> has unveiled the renderings for a new 92-metre superyacht concept, Project MED. The new concept focuses heavily on open space and features a reflective glass superstructure that mirrors her surroundings.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288121/image/large-808baff3b58ad59e2fbad287108918a6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288121">Project MED takes inspiration from the power of open space and celebrates the Mediterranean lifestyle and free-spirited thinkers. At the heart of the 2,300 GT concept is the open main deck called Agora, named after the public square and centre of life in Ancient Greece.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288130/image/large-1ab3f59c94def976e280742c453f6778.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288130">“One of the greatest gifts of the Mediterranean civilization to the modern world is the ethos for outdoor living and alfresco dining, known to contribute to well-being. This MED concept aims to deliver experiences and offer infinite flexibility,” explained <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/283" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Luiz de Basto Designs (Company)">Luiz de Basto</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288135/image/large-93bdd3e284418df4ad75f4b4dae75e1d.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288135">Project MED features naval architecture by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5009" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lateral Naval Architects (Company)">Lateral Naval Architects</a>, which were responsible for designing a structural lattice system that allows the superstructure to have a minimum footprint and rest on her four supports.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288129/image/large-4e8e7866b098b03946d06ba879c8e4a2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288129"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288131/image/large-3cb827e386ff8fe9451c33d6e8d2fc78.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288131">The main deck of Project MED is characterised by her open social area, reminiscent of a busy town square. The inviting space allows for guests to congregate and engage with each other and the surrounding nature, creating a closer connection between her and the sea.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288132/image/large-7ba594ff80b86a95b6d3fd0227c7e4fb.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288132">The Agora deck of Project MED is a multipurpose, flexible space, partially open to the open air. Her glass staircase allows for uninterrupted views, and acts as a visual anchor. The open approach also allows the design to outlive trends and fashions of the moment and to change during the yacht’s life, just like the entire vessel herself.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288128/image/large-1d7ca7836a04f9429143e98342c79d40.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288128">Below the Agora deck are two decks of private spaces with an open layout configuration. In the superstructure, which appears suspended above the Agora open deck, there are two additional decks of open public spaces.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288125/image/large-53fc34d3b4f23b0dbbe575d54a298161.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288125">In terms of accommodation, Project MED can comfortably accommodate up to 14 guests, with an owner’s deck situated on the upper deck. Her remaining staterooms include, four guest suites and two VIP suites.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288126/image/large-2b5d06672593d8ff69530265dcf3d5b4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288126">A key defining feature of Project MED is her reflective glass superstructure, polished like a pebble stone, which mirrors her surroundings. As well as this, the hull’s openings and windows are covered in serigraphy that matches the hull color so they are virtually invisible from the outside.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288123/image/large-56bd394f1e6a1e940e6f08756bbeaf93.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288123">“I wanted to strip the profile of everything superfluous, leaving just the right number of elements to convey the concept,” said <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/283" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Luiz de Basto Designs (Company)">Luiz de Basto</a>. “The flying superstructure volume touches the hull delicately, dissolving the Main Deck into a void space and leaving the Agora Deck open.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288127/image/large-9031fd6deadc358767d431c71f204498.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288127">However attractive the final appearance is, it isn't set in stone. “We are not interested in proposing an innovative profile only; we can make the design more conservative or modern, according to the owner's preference.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/288122/image/large-533328f13dc5e9dfdbe614138e3e359e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/288122">Project MED is buildable today and will feature an electric-hybrid propulsion system, allowing her to cruise with fewer noise and pollution. The model is still in the engineering phase and is set for delivery in late 2026. A formidable challenge: to encapsulate the grandeur of a larger vessel into a more compact design. J.D. Sharing his insights, Crawford mentioned, “During our preliminary discussions, we delved deep into the clients' unique preferences.
